Health issues: Egis Klimas reveals the reason behind Vasiliy Lomachenko and Gervonta Davis fight cancellation
IBF lightweight and three-division champion Vasiliy Lomachenko declined a bout against undefeated WBA lightweight champion Gervonta "Tank" Davis due to back problems, as confirmed by his manager, Egis Klimas.
The Ukrainian fighter will undergo an MRI in the new year to determine his boxing future.
Details. Klimas stated that Lomachenko will undergo a spinal examination in 2025 in Ukraine. The results will shed light on whether the two-time Olympic champion can resume fighting in 2025, as significant matchups loom in his weight division. Klimas added that he has informed the IBF about the situation.
Reminder. Lomachenko's last fight took place on May 12 in Australia, where he defeated former lightweight champion George Kambosos Jr. via an 11th-round TKO. A year earlier, he narrowly lost to former undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney.
Officials from Top Rank Promotions had previously expressed uncertainty about whether Lomachenko would return to the ring.
