"He was a bit annoying": Mario Balotelli opens up about relationship with Patrick Vieira
Mario Balotelli recently appeared on the Italian TV show Striscia La Notizia, where he discussed his past relationship with Patrick Vieira, who was recently appointed head coach of Genoa. The two share a complicated history dating back to their time together at Nice, where disagreements ultimately led to a less-than-amicable parting.
Quote. Balotelli clarified that any perceived issues with Vieira were not personal but stemmed from differences in footballing philosophies:
“It’s not true that I didn’t get along with him at Nice. I just wanted to move to Marseille. We had some disagreements over certain footballing ideas, but on a personal level, we always got along. He was always calm, but sometimes he could be a bit annoying.”
Context. Patrick Vieira recently took over as Genoa’s head coach following the dismissal of Alberto Gilardino. The Frenchman’s contract with the Italian club runs until the summer of 2026.
