Yamal is striving to surpass his idol.
Details: After winning the Laureus World Sports Awards' Best Young Athlete of the Year, Barcelona's 18-year-old wonderkid Lamine Yamal answered a journalist's question about who he believes is the greatest footballer of all time.
Yamal didn't evade the question and openly named his favorite:
"Leo Messi is the greatest footballer of all time and, without a doubt, one of the contenders for the title of greatest athlete ever.
Everyone respects him for what he has achieved, and I hope I can follow in his footsteps," Yamal admitted.
The legendary Leo Messi played for Barcelona from 2005 to 2021. He made 778 appearances for the Blaugrana, scoring 672 goals and providing 303 assists. Leo left Barcelona in 2021, joining PSG as a free agent.
