According to Figo, it all comes down to Mbappé's own desires and priorities.

Details: Former Real Madrid and Barcelona winger Luís Figo weighed in on the controversy surrounding the injury to French forward Kylian Mbappé—a situation that has forced him to choose between playing for his club at the risk of missing the World Cup, or playing it safe to preserve himself for the national team.

Figo believes that only Mbappé can decide what matters most and what he truly wants:

Mbappé's injury is, essentially, a matter of the player's own perception. Can he take the risk or not, and could that risk lead to more serious consequences... In my case, there were times when I pushed myself, and it didn't always end well, but always because I wanted to be on the pitch... Later on, those sacrifices do catch up with you," Figo said.

Earlier, the media reported a heated dispute between Mbappé's camp and Real Madrid representatives. In Madrid, they're demanding that Mbappé recover from his injury as quickly as possible and do everything he can to play against Manchester City, while the French national team is urging Kylian not to take unnecessary risks and instead focus on his future World Cup performances.

This season, Mbappé has played 33 matches for "Los Blancos," scoring 38 goals and providing 6 assists. With just over three months left until the start of the 2026 World Cup, any misstep could jeopardize Mbappé's participation in the tournament.
