“He Doesn’t Need the Money” – Wydad Chief on Failed Ronaldo Bid
In a surprising revelation, Wydad Casablanca president Hicham Ait Menna admitted the club made a serious move to sign Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
Speaking to Radio Monte Carlo, Ait Menna said:
“Cristiano wouldn’t have come for the money. He doesn’t need it.”
Contact with Ronaldo’s Camp
With Ronaldo’s name linked to multiple clubs ahead of the expanded Club World Cup, the Moroccan boss confirmed reaching out to the superstar's entourage:
“Yes, I contacted one of his agent friends around three and a half to four months ago and asked if Cristiano would be interested in playing the Club World Cup.”
But the response was disappointing:
“He replied that he didn’t think Cristiano would accept.”
Tough Road Ahead for Wydad
The Botola champions arrived in Washington last Wednesday to begin their preparations. They’re placed in one of the tournament’s toughest groups, starting with Manchester City on June 18, followed by clashes against Juventus and Al Ain.
Ronaldo Staying Put
Despite the rumors, Ronaldo himself confirmed recently that he will remain with Al Nassr, shutting down all speculation about a short-term switch for the Club World Cup.
