Hat-Trick Hero: Maravilla Martínez Lights Up Racing's Win Over Banfield
Adrián "Maravilla" Martínez continues to make headlines in Argentina. On Sunday night, the Racing striker delivered a stunning hat-trick in his team's 4-1 victory over Banfield in Matchday 12 of the Apertura tournament, cementing his status as the league’s top scorer with eight goals. The 31-year-old now boasts an incredible tally of 39 goals in just 61 appearances for Racing.
Martínez, who joined Racing from Instituto at the start of 2024, has quickly become a key figure under manager Gustavo Costas. His latest performance not only brought another three points but also further endeared him to fans, who chanted his name as he left the field late in the match.
So far this season, he’s scored against Barracas Central, Belgrano (twice), Boca Juniors, Unión, and now Banfield. He also netted in the first leg of the Recopa Sudamericana final against Botafogo, showing his consistency in high-stakes matches.
After the game, Martínez remained modest: "I’m just here to work for the team and contribute whatever I can," he said to Olé. When asked if he sees himself as Argentina’s best striker, he replied, “There are great forwards out there. I just focus on doing my job.”
As he exited the field, match ball in hand, the crowd at El Cilindro gave him a rousing ovation. With Racing set to face Atlético Bucaramanga next in the Copa Libertadores, Martínez’s form couldn’t come at a better time.
