Harsh prediction: Itauma warned against fight with Usyk
Former super middleweight world champion Carl Froch has shared his thoughts on a potential bout between Oleksandr Usyk and Moses Itauma, a matchup that is gaining increasing attention in the boxing world. In Froch's opinion, the young Brit is not yet ready to take on opposition of this caliber.
Usyk and Itauma are at very different stages of their careers: the Ukrainian has long established himself as one of the world's best pound-for-pound boxers and is nearing the end of his journey, while the 20-year-old British knockout artist is just beginning to make his mark.
But Froch believes that rushing things could be disastrous for Itauma. On his YouTube channel, Froch On Fighting, he explained why such a fight would be dangerous at this stage.
"You can't rush Itauma. If I were his manager, there's no way I'd put him in the ring with Usyk—a veteran with hundreds of amateur fights and world titles at cruiserweight and heavyweight. That could be the end of Itauma, couldn't it?" Froch remarked.
For the record, Itauma is planning to return to the ring in January against Jermaine Franklin. As for Usyk, his next move is still uncertain. The Ukrainian has vacated his WBO title, retaining the WBC, WBA, and IBF belts, and his next opponent remains a matter of speculation.
