Kevin Magnussen became the first active driver to exceed 12 penalty points on his super license, leading to his disqualification from the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

This occurred after he received two additional penalty points at the Italian Grand Prix for an incident with Pierre Gasly, bringing his total to 12 points, which automatically triggers a race ban. It’s worth noting that the race was won by Scuderia Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc.

Magnussen will have to miss the Azerbaijan Grand Prix due to the accumulation of penalty points. FIA rules prohibit drivers from accumulating more than 12 penalty points within a 12-month period, after which the points are annulled. Penalty points are given for violations during races. Remarkably, Magnussen is the first to breach this rule since its implementation.

In the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Magnussen will be replaced by another driver. It’s likely to be Oliver Bearman, who has already participated in several first practice sessions for Haas this year and is preparing for a full-time role with the team in 2025.
