Guy Feutchine speaking about the qualities of the Cameroon U23 Indomitable Lions on a training camp in Spain

The manager wants to lay the foundations for a project he considers essential for the future of Cameroonian football.

Cameroon’s U23 national team has been on a training camp in Alavés, Spain, since 23 March 2026. Following the first day of the camp, the U23 Lions’ manager has outlined his ambitions for this young generation. Guy Feutchine is aware of his players’ potential but nevertheless emphasises other aspects. For the Cameroonian tactician, this camp represents more than mere preparation. It is part of a process of continuity towards the senior Indomitable Lions squad. On the pitch, the manager says he has spotted quality within his squad.

As I told the lads at the start of the training camp, we are embarking on something important here and the road ahead will be long. We told them they have talent, but that talent alone is not enough. This training camp will be a great help to football in our country because, as they say, the U23s are the stepping stone to the senior team. We’re here and we’ll do everything we can to ensure the camp runs smoothly. We’re happy to be here with the lads. There haven’t been any hiccups in the organisation so far and we hope it stays that way. After the first training session, we can see they’re a bit timid, but you can tell straight away there’s quality there. The lads are receptive to the instructions we give. With my experience of this age group, I’m satisfied and I think we’re on the right track. The intensity in training has even surprised me a little.
