Gueye Admits Senegal Walk-Off Error in AFCON Final

Senegal midfielder Pape Gueye has admitted that the Teranga Lions were wrong to walk off the pitch during the tense AFCON 2025 final against hosts Morocco in Rabat. Senegal were angered late in normal time after a goal was ruled out for a push, before Morocco were awarded a penalty.

The decision sparked protests, with players leaving the field and causing a delay of over 15 minutes as security restored order. After talks in the dressing room, Senegal returned and the match resumed. Morocco’s Brahim Díaz missed the penalty with a failed “Panenka”. The game went to extra time, where Senegal recovered momentum. Gueye then scored the winning goal. He later said, “We are only human… we realised our mistake.”
