On Friday, June 6, Guatemala hosts the Dominican Republic in a crucial World Cup qualifier that could determine their path to the final round of CONCACAF’s 2026 campaign. As reported by Claro Sports, the Cementos Progreso stadium is expected to be packed as the Bicolor aims to secure its place in the next phase.

Head coach Luis Fernando Tena has nearly finalized his starting XI, although he plans to confirm the lineup after the final training session. Guatemala is expected to field a 4-2-3-1 formation, with two holding midfielders and a dynamic attack capable of adapting throughout the match.

The projected starting eleven includes Nicholas Hagen in goal; José Ardón, Nicolás Samayoa, José Pinto, and Aaron Herrera in defense; José Rosales and Jonathan Franco in central midfield; with Méndez-Laing, Óscar Santis, and Pedro Altán supporting striker Rubio Rubín.

This match sees Hagen return to the starting role after Kenderson Navarro’s standout performance in a recent friendly against El Salvador. It also marks the comeback of Aaron Herrera, who had previously opted out of the Gold Cup qualifiers due to artificial turf concerns.

Guatemala leads Group E with six points and a +9 goal difference. A win on Friday would all but guarantee progression to the next round, where three new groups will be formed. The winners of each group will qualify directly for the World Cup, while the two best runners-up will head to an intercontinental playoff.
