Gremio announced the dismissal of head coach Gustavo Quinteros following a 4–1 defeat against Mirassol in the fourth round of the Brasileirão, as reported by GZH. The decision comes just days ahead of the highly anticipated Gre-Nal against archrivals Internacional. Assistant coach James Freitas will serve as interim manager while the club searches for a replacement.

The Argentine coach leaves with a 57% win rate across 18 matches, with eight wins, five draws, and five losses. However, performance concerns outweighed the raw numbers. After an encouraging start in the state championship, the team’s form plummeted, and internal sources indicated a disconnect between Quinteros' tactical ideas and the squad's profile.

Despite an extensive overhaul of the roster after Renato Gaúcho’s departure, Quinteros repeatedly insisted he needed further reinforcements, especially in defense—an argument not fully supported by club executives. The loss at Mirassol proved to be the tipping point. Club president Alberto Guerra admitted after the match that no replacement had yet been considered, expressing disappointment at the turn of events.

Quinteros’ exit is the third managerial change in the top flight this season. Gremio are set to face Internacional at home this Saturday, followed by a midweek Copa Sudamericana clash away to Godoy Cruz.
