On Wednesday, March 12, Real Madrid secured a victory over Atletico in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16, winning the penalty shootout and setting a new record.
Details: According to Opta, this victory marked the Madrid club's fourth win in a penalty shootout in the history of the European Cup/UEFA Champions League. Real Madrid is now the absolute record holder in this regard among all teams in the premier European tournament.
It was previously reported that one of the most controversial moments of the match was the disallowed Alvarez strike in the penalty shootout.
However, replays, photos, and freeze frames do not provide a definitive answer as to whether Alvarez touched the ball twice. From the angles shown in the broadcast, the contact of the Argentine's supporting foot with the ball is not visible.
