It was reported that McAneny's goal, just 4.1 seconds into the match against Hibernian Women on 21 December 2025, has been recognized as the fastest goal ever scored in women's football history.
“There was no training or anything like that, it was just a spontaneous decision.
There was a plan B, but I told Saoirse I was going to give it a try, and luckily, it worked out. It's an amazing feeling, and I definitely never thought I would achieve something like this. Honestly, I still haven't fully realized it.” - commented the record holder on her achievement.
This incredible feat did not go unnoticed by Scotland's national women's team: the midfielder has been called up to the Scotland squad for the Women's World Cup qualifiers.
