Gorosito Hit With 8-Match Ban in Peru After Heated Clash With Referee

Argentine coach Néstor “Pipo” Gorosito has been handed an eight-match suspension in the Peruvian league after an explosive outburst toward referee Bruno Pérez during Alianza Lima’s 1-0 loss to Cienciano. As reported by Líbero, the Peruvian Football Federation issued the severe punishment after Gorosito’s repeated gestures and verbal attacks on the official.
Gorosito was furious over a controversial penalty awarded to Cienciano and the red cards shown to veterans Paolo Guerrero and Carlos Zambrano. He made gestures indicating a “robbery” and shouted “shameless” at the referee, behavior that was included in the post-match report and led to the lengthy ban.
Speaking to the media afterward, Gorosito lamented what he sees as a pattern of unfair treatment: “It’s not new; we’ve been suffering this since the start of the season,” he said. “We coach, we prepare, we do our job — but then these things happen and it’s out of our hands.”
Despite the domestic suspension, Gorosito will remain eligible to coach Alianza Lima in the Copa Libertadores. The team faces key upcoming fixtures against Talleres in Córdoba and Libertad in Paraguay, where the Argentine manager will still be allowed on the sidelines.
