History of Golf at the Olympic Games
Golf is a relatively rare sport at the Olympic Games. It was first introduced and held in 1900, followed by a second event in 1904. The 1900 tournament was not initially considered part of the official Games. The 1908 tournament was canceled less than two days before it was scheduled to begin.
More than a century later, the Olympic Committee decided to reintegrate golf into the main program. It officially returned in 2016 and has since been held at every subsequent Olympic Games.
Americans are the most decorated nation in Olympic golf. American men have won nine medals, while American women have claimed four. Medals in men's golf have also been won by athletes from Great Britain, Canada, Slovakia, Sweden, and Taiwan. In women's golf, South Korea, New Zealand, Japan, and China have also won medals.
