The highly anticipated Betway Premiership clash between Golden Arrows and Orlando Pirates was called off at the last minute due to heavy rain, making the Mpumalanga Stadium pitch unplayable.

Match Postponed

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) will announce a new date for the fixture, which was initially set for Wednesday night. Pirates confirmed the postponement on social media, stating:

"The game against Golden Arrows has been formally canceled because of the soggy field. A new date will be decided by the league when the match is rescheduled.

How This Affects Orlando Pirates

  • Fixture congestion: Pirates already had two games in hand, and this postponement adds a third match to their tight schedule.
  • Title race impact: The Buccaneers were hoping to close the gap on league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, who were playing Marumo Gallants on the same night.
  • Potential fatigue: With CAF Champions League and Nedbank Cup matches coming up, coach Jose Riveiro fears that the extra games could lead to player burnout.

This is not the first time this season that Pirates have faced weather-related postponements, with their MTN8 semi-final against Cape Town City last August also being affected.
