Godoy Cruz has had the three-point deduction overturned and will be allowed to welcome fans back to the stadium, following a successful appeal to the Argentine Football Association’s Appeals Tribunal. The decision was announced Tuesday via bulletin No. 6669 and confirmed by TyC Sports.
The club had been sanctioned on February 20 after incidents during halftime of their match against Talleres, which included an attack by a minor on a match official. The initial ruling also included a six-match stadium ban and a heavy financial penalty.
However, after submitting an 80-page appeal, Godoy Cruz convinced the Tribunal to reconsider the punishment. The club emphasized its commitment to anti-violence campaigns within football, a key element that reportedly helped sway the decision.
With the points restored, Esteban Solari’s side now has 13 in Group B of the Apertura tournament, climbing into eighth place and currently holding a spot in the knockout round — ironically, at the expense of Talleres.
Their next home match will be against Lanús on Monday, and fans will be allowed to attend, bringing relief and renewed motivation to the team. Godoy Cruz is also set to face Sportivo Luqueño tonight in their Copa Sudamericana debut in Mendoza.
