Global Tributes Pour In as Boca Juniors Celebrates 120th Anniversary
Boca Juniors turned 120 years old on April 3, and tributes came flooding in from around the footballing world to honor the Argentine giants. The celebrations were not limited to Buenos Aires, as major football institutions and clubs from Europe joined in congratulating the Xeneize.
Italy’s Genoa, a club historically linked to Boca through its Genovese roots, paid homage with a commemorative jersey and a heartfelt message. Napoli also joined in, sharing a tribute featuring club legends Edinson Cavani and Diego Maradona. Paris Saint-Germain, Leeds United, and Ligue 1 all posted celebratory messages, while the FIFA Club World Cup account recognized Boca’s milestone with a “120 years of passion” post, reports Olé.
On the player side, Cavani, now at Boca, said he was “proud to be part of this moment,” and goalkeeper Agustín Marchesín shared a childhood photo wearing the club’s iconic jersey. Several current squad members also shared their love for the club on social media.
The club unveiled a new anniversary kit to be worn against Barracas Central and coordinated events in the La Boca neighborhood, including street murals and fan gatherings. Despite the ups and downs of recent seasons, Boca remains one of the most recognizable and beloved teams in world football.
