Brazilian clubs’ stunning performances at the FIFA Club World Cup have sparked a global surge in interest in the domestic league. As reported by Folha de S.Paulo, Google Trends data shows that searches for “Brazilian League” reached a five-year-high, surpassing even the December 2023 peak following Manchester City’s 4-0 win over Fluminense.

The spike came during the same week Botafogo shocked Paris Saint-Germain, ending a 13-year drought for South American teams against European clubs in official matches — a feat not seen since Corinthians defeated Chelsea in the 2012 final.

Flamengo then added fuel to the fire with a dramatic 3-1 comeback win over Chelsea, further boosting global curiosity.

Among Brazilian teams, Flamengo, Palmeiras, Botafogo, and Fluminense topped international search rankings during this period. Flamengo stood out the most, ranking among the world’s five most-searched clubs during the tournament — trailing only Real Madrid and PSG.

Interest in the Club World Cup also hit record highs within Brazil, and it shows no signs of slowing down. On Saturday, Palmeiras and Botafogo will clash in a high-stakes all-Brazilian round-of-16 matchup that is expected to drive even more global attention.
