Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata have appointed Uruguayan coach Alejandro Orfila as their new manager, the club confirmed on Wednesday. As reported by TyC Sports, Orfila signed a one-year deal and will begin leading the squad on Thursday as preseason kicks off at Estancia Chica. He replaces Diego Flores, who departed earlier this month.
The contract includes a review clause tied to the club’s presidential elections scheduled for November. Orfila will be supported by assistants Guillermo Almada Flores and Axel Clazón, with Diego Arias and Martín Fernández overseeing physical preparation. Goalkeeper coach Alejandro Andrada remains on staff, along with analysts Juan Cruz Lhomy, Facundo Juárez, and Ignacio Giusti.
The new coaching staff steps in as Gimnasia look to bounce back from a disappointing first half of the year. Preparations for the 2025 Clausura are underway, with the club already targeting reinforcements — including Uruguayan forward Jhonatan Candia.
