Ghanaian Player Yaw Yeboah Banned for Life by MLS Over Gambling
Ghanaian footballer Yaw Yeboah has received a lifetime ban from Major League Soccer (MLS) after an investigation found that he was involved in gambling activities on soccer matches, including betting on games involving his own team.
MLS confirmed on Monday that Yeboah and fellow player Derrick Jones have both been permanently banned from the league for violating its strict gambling rules. The two players had been placed on administrative leave in October while the league carried out an investigation into the alleged misconduct.
According to an official statement from MLS, the investigation revealed that the players engaged in extensive betting on soccer during the 2024 and 2025 seasons. The league also disclosed that some of the bets involved their own teams, which is a serious breach of league integrity policies.
"After reviewing the results of the investigation, MLS concluded that the players engaged in extensive gambling on soccer, including on their own teams, during the 2024 and 2025 seasons. In one instance, both players bet on Jones to draw a yellow card during an October 19, 2024 match, which he received," the league said.
