Ghana Premier League: Hearts of Oak Condemn Post-Match Incident After 1-0 Defeat to Asante Kotoko
Ghana Premier League giants Accra Hearts of Oak have strongly condemned the unfortunate incident that occurred following their 1-0 defeat to Asante Kotoko in the rescheduled Matchday 5 fixture at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.
During the match, Hearts midfielder Hussein was reportedly involved in a heated exchange with referee Reginald Collins Amoah, an incident that later escalated into post-match disturbances.
In a statement issued and signed by the club’s management, Hearts of Oak expressed deep regret over the incident and extended an unreserved apology to the Ghana Football Association (GFA), match officials, supporters, and the general public. The club emphasized that the conduct did not reflect the values and traditions that define the Phobia brand.
“Following the conclusion of the match, we acknowledge with deep regret the unfortunate scenes that unfolded after the final whistle. These moments do not reflect the values we uphold as a club — values rooted in discipline, respect, and the spirit of fair play,” the statement read.
Hearts of Oak further assured fans and stakeholders that internal measures are being implemented to address the matter.
“As part of our internal response, we have initiated disciplinary processes concerning the player involved. These steps are being taken to ensure accountability, uphold our standards, and prevent future occurrences,” the club added.
