Ghana is considering Pape Thiaw to take charge of the Black Stars
Following Carlos Queiroz’s departure, the Ghana Football Association is looking for a new manager to take the reins of the national team.
The Portuguese manager stepped down on 1 October following a poor start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. However, the GFA is reportedly considering the former Senegal head coach as Carlos Queiroz’s successor.
According to reports, Pape Thiaw is among the candidates shortlisted by the Ghanaian authorities. The Senegalese manager is currently without a contract. Thiaw stepped down as manager of the Lions of Teranga following the FIFA World Cup held this summer in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
His experience at the helm of Senegal could therefore prove an asset in the selection process for the Black Stars’ next manager. Pape Thiaw managed the Lions of Teranga from 2024 to 2026. His tenure as head coach of the Senegal national team was marked by reaching the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, held in Morocco. He also led Senegal to qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
