AS Monaco and Ghana defender Mohammed Salisu is set for a prolonged period on the sidelines after sustaining a serious knee injury during the club’s Ligue 1 encounter with Olympique Lyonnais over the weekend.

The 25-year-old center-back picked up the injury late in Monaco’s 3–1 defeat to Lyon, a match that proved costly for the Principality club, with three players forced off through injury. Salisu’s setback, however, is the most severe.

Following medical assessments, AS Monaco confirmed that Salisu has torn the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee, an injury that typically requires surgery and months of rehabilitation.

In an official statement, the club expressed its full support for the Ghanaian international throughout his recovery process.

“At the very end of the match against Olympique Lyonnais, our center-back Mohammed Salisu suffered an injury to his left knee,” the statement read.

“Medical examinations revealed a torn anterior cruciate ligament. The Club will support Mohammed throughout his recovery and is behind him all the way.”
