River Plate are set to kick off their 2025 Clausura campaign this Sunday against reigning champions Platense, and manager Marcelo Gallardo is working on finalizing the starting XI. According to La Página Millonaria, recent signing Maximiliano Salas is in contention for a starting role after receiving his AFA clearance following a high-profile move from Racing.

The squad has seen major turnover post-Club World Cup. Departures include Franco Mastantuono, González Pirez, and Tapia, with Kranevitter, Aliendro, Simón, Rojas, and Lanzini also expected to exit. Reinforcements include the return of Sebastián Boselli and Lautaro Rivero, and Gallardo is looking to youth, with players like Lencina, Dadín, and Juan Cruz Meza likely to make the matchday squad.

With Driussi injured and Maxi Meza recovering from surgery, the attacking trio remains undecided. Salas is vying for a start alongside Colidio and Nacho Fernández, with Miguel Borja also in contention. At the back, Gallardo is weighing a decision between Germán Pezzella and Lucas Martínez Quarta to partner Paulo Díaz. Galoppo is expected to feature in midfield.

River’s projected lineup: Armani; Montiel, Pezzella or Martínez Quarta, Díaz, Acuña; Castaño, Enzo Pérez, Galoppo; Fernández; Salas or Borja, and Colidio. The club hopes to start strong against the defending champions at El Monumental.
