Galatasaray have confirmed that Victor Osimhen suffered a groin injury during their latest league match, leaving the Nigerian striker facing a race against time to be fit for the Super Eagles’ opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Osimhen was substituted in the 33rd minute of Galatasaray’s 3-2 victory over Istanbul Basaksehir on Friday after appearing to pick up an injury to his inner thigh. The 27-year-old was seen holding the area before being helped off the pitch by members of the club’s medical team.

Galatasaray confirmed the extent of Osimhen’s injury following an MRI scan and further examinations at Acıbadem Hospital.

In a statement shared on the club’s official X account on Sunday, Galatasaray revealed that the striker suffered an advanced-moderate strain, including bleeding, in his adductor muscle group.

Following the completion of MR and advanced examinations at our sponsor Acıbadem Hospital, advanced-moderate level strain (bleeding and strain) has been detected in the right adductor (groin) muscle group of our footballer Victor Osimhen. Similarly, advanced-moderate level strain (bleeding and strain) has been detected in the right adductor muscle group of our player Mario Lemina, whose examinations have also been completed, and their treatment processes are ongoing.

The injury comes at a difficult time for Osimhen, with Nigeria set to begin their qualification campaign for the 2027 AFCON later this month.

The Super Eagles will host Madagascar in Uyo on September 23 before travelling to face Guinea-Bissau four days later.
