Gabriel Milito Turns Down Fluminense Offer to Take Over as Head Coach

Argentine coach Gabriel Milito has turned down an offer to become Fluminense’s new head coach, according to transfer specialist César Luis Merlo. Milito, who previously managed Atlético Mineiro in Brazil, reportedly thanked the club for their interest but declined the opportunity.

The information aligns with earlier reports from journalists Victor Lessa and Gilmar Ferreira. Lessa noted that Milito had been approached by the Rio de Janeiro-based club, while Ferreira indicated the Tricolor had made a formal offer to a foreign coach.

Milito’s only managerial stint in Brazil came with Atlético Mineiro, where he led the team in 62 matches, recording 23 wins, 20 draws, and 19 losses. Despite finishing runner-up in both the Copa Libertadores and Copa do Brasil, and winning the Campeonato Mineiro, Milito has chosen not to continue in Brazilian football at this time.

Meanwhile, Fluminense president Mário Bittencourt has returned to Rio de Janeiro to continue discussions with other coaching candidates. The club aims to finalize its new coach by April 10, with the Copa Libertadores campaign underway and domestic competition heating up.
