Gabon Coach Thierry Mouyouma Warns Super Eagles as Gabon Prepares for 2026 World Cup Playoff Clash
Gabon head coach Thierry Mouyouma has delivered a confident and pointed message to Nigeria’s Super Eagles ahead of next week’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying playoff. Speaking during his press conference on Thursday, the Gabonese tactician made it clear that his side is not approaching the game as underdogs but as equals ready to challenge one of Africa’s football giants.
“The Nigeria we are facing was a top team in the group, and in the end, they did not qualify because they were not first in the group,” Mouyouma said. “So what used to be said that the strongest always win doesn’t exist today. When you look at it—Nigeria, Cameroon, Democratic Republic of Congo and Gabon—the top would be Gabon.”
Gabon are set to take on Nigeria in a crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup playoff, with the winner advancing to meet whoever emerges victorious from the Cameroon versus DR Congo clash.
