Al Ahly have officially unveiled Ahmed Mostafa "Zizo" as their newest signing, confirming a free transfer that ends a long-running saga surrounding the Egyptian international’s future.

The 28-year-old signed a four-year contract after his deal with rival club Zamalek expired, marking one of the most high-profile transfers in Egyptian football in recent years.

One of Al Ahly's Top Earners

According to reports, Zizo’s annual earnings, including bonuses and endorsements, could approach EGP 100 million, placing him among the club’s highest-paid players. The Red Devils moved quickly once it became clear that Zamalek had failed to reach a renewal agreement.

In preparation for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup (June 14–July 13), where the team will compete in Group A against Inter Miami (USA), FC Porto (Portugal), and Palmeiras (Brazil), Zizo will attend Al Ahly's training camp in Miami.

Zamalek Responds: "He Disrespected the Club"

Zamalek’s treasurer Hossam El Mandouh slammed Zizo following his controversial exit, telling Kooora:

“Players come and go, but Zamalek’s legacy lives on. No player’s departure will shut down this club.”

He added:

“Those who leave without showing respect are the real losers. We just won the Egypt Cup without him — maybe if he’d played, we wouldn’t have lifted the trophy.”

A New Chapter for Both Clubs

Zamalek’s recent Egypt Cup triumph over Pyramids capped off a season of resurgence for the White Knights. El Mandouh highlighted the victory as a turning point, stating:

“We’ve won the Confederation Cup, Super Cup, and now Egypt Cup. We know rebuilding takes time, but Zamalek will rise again.”

He also shared details of a touching moment with club icon Shikabala:

“I told him, football has found you again. He once missed a crucial penalty, now he scored the winning one. The decision to retire is his, but Zamalek will always be his home.”
