From Nearly Leaving to Key Player: Nicolás Guerra Sparks Universidad de Chile’s Win
Universidad de Chile secured a memorable Copa Libertadores victory over Botafogo, and substitute Nicolás Guerra was instrumental in the turnaround. Entering after halftime, the 25-year-old forward set up the winning goal for Lucas Di Yorio and worked tirelessly to hold up the ball in the final minutes.
Guerra, the only remaining player from U de Chile’s 2018 Libertadores squad, reflected on his journey. “With time, you gain experience. I’ve always been self-critical and tried to keep improving through training,” he said post-match.
Despite never fully cementing a starting role, Guerra has remained a trusted option off the bench. “We all want to play, but I try to contribute when given the chance. I’m very happy we beat the reigning champions and kept the three points at home,” he added before boarding the team bus.
