Fresh Injury Woes for Celtic as Iheanacho Breaks Down Again
Scottish champions Celtic have been hit by another injury setback after Kelechi Iheanacho suffered a fresh hamstring problem during the League Cup final.
The Super Eagles forward, 29, only recently returned from a similar injury picked up two months ago in a UEFA Europa League clash against Sturm Graz, where he lasted just four minutes. He spent weeks on the bench before making his comeback in last Thursday’s 3-0 loss to AS Roma.
New coach Wilfried Nancy had warned the striker needed time, saying, “He has trained well… he needs minutes… it has been a long time, two months since he really played,” while stressing he was “not fit to play a lot of minutes”.
Despite that caution, Iheanacho started against St Mirren and looked sharp early on, forcing goalkeeper Shamal George into a fine save. But in the 33rd minute he pulled up, clutched his hamstring and was replaced.
