Franco Vázquez has made his priorities clear. After helping Cremonese secure promotion to Serie A, the Argentine playmaker reaffirmed a long-held personal promise: a return to Argentina would only mean one thing — playing for Belgrano. “If I go back, it’s for Belgrano. I can’t picture myself wearing any other jersey,” he said during an interview with Córdoba’s LVDOS radio show Fanáticos, as reported by La Voz del Interior.

The 35-year-old’s contract in Italy expires this June, and while he remains content at Cremonese, his bond with Belgrano is unshakable. Vázquez said he’s watched nearly every match this season and personally congratulated coach Ricardo Zielinski on his recent appointment. He believes the squad has potential and feels the team has improved since Zielinski took over, particularly in defense.

His words stirred emotions in Córdoba. Years ago, talks of a return fell through, but the door was never fully closed. “Back then, they said no, but I’ve always held on to the hope,” Vázquez admitted. Now, with his future wide open and his admiration for the club unchanged, the possibility of coming home feels more real than ever.

The former Sevilla and Palermo midfielder isn’t chasing nostalgia — he’s eyeing closure. And for a club that thrives on identity and belonging, a reunion with one of its most beloved exports would be more than symbolic. It could be the homecoming fans have long dreamed of.
