For Michael Olise, this evening ended in true emotional turmoil.

Details: The French national team fell to England by a score of 4-6 in an incredibly high-scoring third-place match at the 2026 World Cup. During the game, France trailed 0-4, but after the break, they clawed their way back to within a single goal.

According to L'Équipe, after the final whistle Michael Olise was inconsolable, breaking down in tears in the locker room. The winger blamed himself for missed opportunities and was unable to forgive himself for squandered chances.

Two misses in the second half proved especially painful. With the score at 3-4, the Frenchman failed to convert two golden opportunities in the 75th and 81st minutes—moments that could have completely changed the course of the match.

Didier Deschamps tried to comfort the player, who took the defeat extremely hard. Despite his heartbreak, Olise made a huge contribution to France’s comeback, providing two crucial assists.

It’s worth noting that Michael finished the World Cup with six assists—the best tally of any player in the tournament.

Reminder: Decision made? Michael Olise's future finally revealed.
