Former Zimbabwe goalkeeper dies Former Zimbabwe goalkeeper dies

A 32-year-old former goalkeeper of the Zimbabwe national team and the SuperSport United team from South Africa, George Chigova, has died.

This was reported by the press service of the African club.

“George was an outstanding man, a gentle giant who was loved by players, past and present, and by everyone at our club.

Although his official contract with SuperSport United ended in June 2023, he still regularly visited the training ground and stadium to support the team.

We extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends in both South Africa and Zimbabwe during this difficult and sad period. May his soul rest in peace," the club said.

In total, Chigova played 148 matches at the club level, 37 of which he kept a clean sheet. He also has 15 caps for Zimbabwe in all competitions, in which he conceded 12 goals.

Chigova is a South African Cup winner with SuperSport United.
