Former Zamalek Coach Jose Peseiro Reveals How Zizo’s Contract Saga Affected His Tenure

Former Zamalek manager Jose Peseiro opened up about the challenges he faced during his time at the Egyptian club, highlighting the contract dispute involving star player Ahmed Mostafa "Zizo."
Zizo’s contract fallout impacts team dynamics
Zamalek confirmed Zizo’s departure after the current season due to disagreements over his salary. The 29-year-old winger has been linked with a move to Zamalek’s fierce rivals, Al Ahly, once his contract expires.
Peseiro told On Sport channel that Zizo lost focus after media rumors about signing for another club surfaced. This led to an administrative decision to exclude him from the Confederation Cup quarter-final second leg against Stellenbosch FC.
Peseiro on Zizo’s situation
The Portuguese coach praised Zizo as one of the best players in the Egyptian Premier League and insisted he would make an impact wherever he goes.
He explained that Zizo felt unheard by Zamalek’s management and believed Al Ahly offered better conditions and respect for his demands. Peseiro revealed his struggle to bridge the gap but admitted Zizo was more inclined towards a move to Al Ahly.
Challenges behind Peseiro’s exit
Peseiro described his departure as unexpected and driven by administrative problems, financial issues, and a high injury toll at the club. Despite wanting to stay and confident of winning the Egypt Cup final against Pyramids FC, he acknowledged the pressure from media and fans contributed to his resignation.
