Former USMNT Star Recommends Ajax as Ideal Move for Gio Reyna

Giovanni Reyna's time at Borussia Dortmund appears to be drawing to a close. The American midfielder has struggled for regular minutes, often limited to late-game appearances, and now faces an uncertain future. According to AS USA, former USMNT forward and CBS Sports analyst Charlie Davies believes a move to Ajax could be the perfect next step for Reyna’s career.
Davies highlighted Ajax's reputation for nurturing young talent as a key reason why the Dutch club would be a great fit. “I think Ajax would suit Gio Reyna really well,” Davies said. “From what I’ve heard, he’s matured a lot. He’s become a true professional and a good teammate. But he’s lost that edge, which comes from losing sharpness and confidence.”
With Dortmund eliminated by Barcelona in the Champions League quarterfinals and out of contention in the Bundesliga, the club is reportedly preparing a squad overhaul. Reyna has allegedly been told that he is not in the club’s future plans, prompting speculation about potential summer moves.
Davies emphasized that Reyna needs consistent playing time at a club that believes in his abilities. “Playing more minutes at a high level would do wonders for him,” he noted. At just 21 years old, Reyna still has the potential to reignite his European career and fulfill the promise he once showed.
