Former Super Eagles Coach Festus Onigbinde Dies at 88
Former Nigeria national football team coach Festus Adegboye Onigbinde has passed away at the age of 88, his family has confirmed.
The respected football tactician, who also managed Shooting Stars Sports Club during his career, died on Monday morning. His death came just four days after he celebrated his 88th birthday.
Onigbinde was widely known for his contributions to Nigerian football and for serving the national team on two different occasions as head coach.
In a statement announcing his passing, the family paid tribute to his life and legacy.
“With great gratitude to God for a life well spent, we announce the passing of this great man: a Modakeke High Chief, the first indigenous Nigerian Super Eagles football coach, father, husband, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend – High Chief Festus Adegboye Onigbinde,” the statement read.
