Former Roma, Inter Milan, and Belgium national team footballer Radja Nainggolan has been arrested in Belgium as part of an investigation into cocaine smuggling, The Sun reports.
The case involves the trafficking of drugs through the port of Antwerp from South America. Authorities conducted a major operation, including around 30 searches in the Antwerp and Brussels regions.
"The investigation concerns suspected facts of importing cocaine from South America to Europe, via the port of Antwerp, and its redistribution in Belgium. We can confirm that the footballer RN (Radja Nainggolan) was deprived of his liberty in the context of that case. Given that the interrogations are currently underway, and in compliance with the principle of presumption of innocence, no further comment will be made at this stage," the Brussels prosecutor's office stated.
Nainggolan recently returned to his homeland to play for Challenger Pro League club Temse Lokeren. In his debut last Friday, he scored a stunning goal directly from a corner, helping his team secure a draw against Oosterozebeke.
