Former Blackburn defender, Simon Vukčević, was apprehended attempting to cross an international border. The Mirror reports the discovery of a pistol and 126 rounds of ammunition in his possession.

According to Serbian press sources, Vukčević was arrested at the Gostun border crossing on Saturday as he was leaving Serbia. Suspected of committing a criminal offense under Serbian firearm laws, the former footballer was sentenced to a 30-day detention.

Simon Vukčević, hailing from Podgorica, his hometown in Serbia, was nurtured in the Buducnost sports academy. He commenced his professional career with Partizan, subsequently playing in Russia before joining Cristiano Ronaldo's club, Sporting, following Ronaldo's move to Manchester United. After spending four seasons in Portugal, he transferred to Blackburn. Following the team's relegation from the Premier League, he moved to Ukraine's Karpaty but terminated his contract within two months, later joining Serbia's Vojvodina. He concluded his career as a midfielder, representing Greek, Cypriot, Portuguese, and Montenegrin clubs, retiring in March 2018.

He played for the national teams of Serbia and Montenegro, later joining the Montenegrin national team after the country's dissolution.
