Former Nigeria star Taye Taiwo inducted into Marseille’s Hall of Fame
Former Nigeria international and Olympique de Marseille defender Taye Taiwo has been honored with induction into the Marseille Hall of Fame, reports Pulse Nigeria. The left-back, who played for the French club from 2005 to 2011, is now recognized among the club's greatest legends.
Taiwo joins an elite group in Marseille’s Legends Club, which includes players who have made a significant impact on the club’s history. Other notable names in the Hall of Fame include Samir Nasri, Mamadou Niang, and Lorik Cana.
During his time with Marseille, Taiwo made 271 appearances, scoring 25 goals and providing 23 assists. He was a key player in the club’s Ligue 1 title-winning campaign in 2010, as well as their triumphs in the French League Cup and French Super Cup the same year.
Beyond Marseille, Taiwo also played for AC Milan, QPR, and Dynamo Kyiv. While at Milan, he won the Italian Super Cup in 2011.
On the international stage, Taiwo earned 53 caps and scored five goals for Nigeria. He helped the Super Eagles win bronze medals at the Africa Cup of Nations in 2006 and 2010, as well as silver at the 2008 Olympic Games.
