Former NBA guard Patrick Beverley was taken into custody in Texas on charges of assaulting a family member by impeding breathing, an offense classified as a third-degree felony.
Details: According to TMZ, Beverley was arrested on Friday at the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office in Richmond. Bail was set at $40,000. No further details have been released.
The athlete's attorney, Leticia Quinones-Hollins, stated:
"Patrick Beverley has no criminal history. He cares deeply about his younger sister, who is a minor. When he unexpectedly found her at home at night with an 18-year-old man, he naturally became concerned. However, we disagree with how the incident has been characterized and look forward to presenting our side in court."
Beverley himself also responded on social media:
"Please, don’t believe everything you see on the internet. Hope everyone is well. Love."
Beverley is a well-known NBA veteran, having played for the Rockets, Clippers, Timberwolves, Lakers, Bulls, 76ers, and Bucks. The 36-year-old's most recent club was Hapoel Tel Aviv.
