Sources revealed that drug paraphernalia, including aluminum foil and a lighter, were found near the scene, along with a white substance around Matusz's mouth. Though he had a history of drug use, Matusz was reportedly in recovery at the time of his passing.
Matusz's mother, who discovered him unresponsive, had previously expressed concern over her son's struggles, sharing that he often spoke of feeling lost and unsure of his purpose in life.
The Baltimore Orioles, Matusz's former team, issued a heartfelt statement mourning his loss:
"Brian was beloved throughout Birdland, and his passion for baseball and our community was unmatched. He dedicated his time to connecting with any fan he could, was a cherished teammate, and always had a smile on his face."
