Belgian midfielder Marouane Fellaini has decided to end his football career and shared this decision on his Instagram page. The 36-year-old Fellaini's last club was the Chinese side Shandong, where he spent five years.

"I am writing this post to announce that after an 18-year career, I am leaving professional football. But it all started much earlier than 18 years. I remember everything like it was yesterday: my first game in childhood, endless training sessions with my father, my first match at Standard, and my first meeting with the Belgian national team. Time flies!

What an incredible journey it has been! I am grateful that I could pursue my favorite sport at the highest level. I am proud to have represented Standard, Everton, Manchester United, and Shandong Taishan. It was an honor for me to play for the national team at the 2008 Olympic Games, Euro 2016, and the 2014 and 2018 World Cups.

I played in front of the best fans in the world, and I want to take this moment to thank you all for unwavering support throughout my career. Your support and enthusiasm have been a constant source of inspiration for me.

All of this would have been impossible without my family, teammates, coaches, advisors, and everyone who was part of my journey. Your love, guidance, support, and friendship have been invaluable. Thank you!

Entering this new stage of my life, I look forward to new challenges, but rest assured, I will continue to support this beautiful game in every way possible. See you!" - wrote Fellaini.

It's worth noting that the Belgian midfielder is a product of Standard's youth system and had his best years in the English Premier League, representing Everton and Manchester United.
