Former England and Manchester United defender has announced the end of his career
Former England and Manchester United defender Phil Jones has announced his retirement from football at the age of 32.
"My career has come to an end sooner than I would have liked. But the glass is half full. I've obtained my UEFA A coaching license and want to try my hand at coaching. Ultimately, I want to take on a managerial role. I'm determined to achieve that," Jones said, as quoted by the BBC.
The 32-year-old has not played since leaving Manchester United at the end of the 2022-23 season, with his last appearance on the field coming 12 months ago in a match against Brentford.
Jones, who earned 27 caps for the England national team, joined Manchester United from Blackburn Rovers in 2011 but struggled with injuries for much of his career.
During his 12 years at United, the defender won the Premier League title in 2013 in Sir Alex Ferguson's final season as manager. He also won the FA Cup in 2016, the League Cup and Europa League in 2017, and the Community Shield in 2011 and 2013.
