Former Egyptian Football Star Detained Amid Legal Troubles
Egyptian government arrested former national footballer Ali Gabr (Ghazal) on Monday, charged with evading 26 court rulings over unpaid monetary responsibilities. Investigations display that Ghazal faces costs from Cairo’s First Settlement Court for issuing bounced assessments, with extra instances pending below the general public prosecutor’s assessment.
Several people, such as prominent football figures, have filed complaints against Ghazal, accusing him of fraud linked to unpaid earnings from an import and export business he reportedly manages.
Ghazal is 32 years old and has previously played for several clubs in Egypt and abroad, most notably Wadi Degla, Smouha, El Mokawloon, Nacional of Portugal and Guizhou Zhicheng of China.
On the global level, Gabr also represented Egypt within the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations below Mexican coach Javier Aguirre.
