German biathlon star Laura Dahlmeier opened up about a tragic personal story in a documentary for ZDF. She revealed that her former boyfriend, Robert Grasegger, died in a mountain climbing accident.
After retiring from biathlon in 2019, Dahlmeier found passion in a new pursuit—mountaineering. This path proved to be just as successful as her biathlon career. Recently, Dahlmeier set a women's world record for the fastest ascent of the Himalayan peak Ama Dablam in Nepal.
However, her mountaineering journey has also been marked by tragedy. On January 6, 2022, Robert Grasegger, Dahlmeier's ex-boyfriend, was killed in an avalanche while climbing in Patagonia. At the time of the incident, Dahlmeier and Grasegger had already parted ways. Grasegger's then-girlfriend, who was with him during the climb, miraculously survived.
Dahlmeier remains one of the most decorated athletes in biathlon history. During her career, she won two Olympic gold medals for Germany and claimed seven world championship titles. She retired from the sport at just 26 years old.
