Forlán's Tennis Debut Ends in Defeat
At 45, it's never too late for a tennis debut, as former Manchester United striker Diego Forlán demonstrated. He teamed up with Argentine Federico Coria for a doubles match at the Montevideo Challenger, but his first foray into the sport was unfortunately not a triumphant one.
Details: Forlán and Coria faced the fourth-seeded Bolivian duo of Boris Arias and Federico Zeballos in the round of 16. The Bolivians, however, proved too strong, leaving their opponents with just three games across two sets.
Forlán and Coria bowed out after their first match, suffering a 0-2 (1-6, 2-6) defeat.
Despite the loss, the Uruguayan seemed unfazed, declaring that playing with Coria was an honor and that facing professionals was an unimaginable experience for him.
Reminder: Forlán is not the only footballer to transition to tennis after retirement. In 2017, former AC Milan defender Paolo Maldini competed at the Milan Challenger.
