Forge FC earned a crucial 1-0 win over CF Montreal on Tuesday night in the first leg of their Canadian Championship quarterfinal clash. The decisive moment came in the 78th minute, when Brian Wright headed home a clever lobbed pass from Nana Ampomah, beating goalkeeper Jonathan Sirois and sealing the victory.
Forge controlled much of the first half and ended the match with 11 shots and 51% possession. Montreal, coming off a 6-1 league thrashing by Toronto FC, showed little improvement and remains bottom of the MLS Eastern Conference.
The two teams will meet again on July 9 at Stade Saputo, where Montreal will need to overturn the deficit to avoid a second consecutive elimination at the hands of Forge FC.
