For the first time in history! Durban City reach CAF Confederation Cup group stage
Durban City secured a place in the CAF Confederation Cup group stage with a convincing 3-0 victory over AS Port Louis 2000 in the second leg. The South African club won the tie 6-1 on aggregate and will continue its continental campaign.
Eric Tinkler's side seized the initiative from the opening minutes. Gaston Sirino opened the scoring in the 12th minute, and 13 minutes later Haashim Domingo doubled the hosts' advantage. Substitute Ethan Brooks completed the scoring after the break, finding the net in the 52nd minute.
The achievement holds special significance for Durban City: the club is making its continental debut just two seasons after emerging at the top level and continues to make history. The team had previously overcome Burundi's Rukinzo and has now confidently cleared another hurdle.
However, not all South African clubs can boast a similar result. On Friday, Kaizer Chiefs suffered a shock elimination from the Confederation Cup at the same stage, failing to reach the group phase.
